#40in4Campaign – Govt Schools Abbottabad

SFY organized its 3rd and 4th sessions of the #40in4Campaign at Government Girls Highschool and Government Girls Higher Secondary School, in Phool Banda, at Abbottabad as part of #YouthMenstrualHealth project. The session collectively served approximately 220 girls from grade 6-11.
SFY leaders put considerable emphases on creating safe spaces where young women can share their experiences. In the beginning, the students were reluctant to talk about their MHM experience and problems they face. Because of taboo topic; that stigmatizes mensuration as dirty and something to be ashamed of. However, after attending the session, the girls were interacted more openly and shared their stories. This also depicts the need for broader conversations on menstruation.

SFY helps young girls to manage periods safely, hygienically, and free from embarrassment. In addition, SFY negates many myths that are restricting women from bettering menstrual health. Myths and misconceptions associated with menstrual hygiene arise due to lack of awareness and knowledge on menstruation.
In order to demystify these myths SFY is disseminating true and factual knowledge that also highlights best practices regarding period. Through the #40in4campaign, SFY is providing leadership opportunities to young women in different cities of Pakistan, fostering grassroot organizing and nurturing effective public-leadership.
We are grateful to principal Ma’am Riffat Parveen for her support to promote Menstrual Hygiene. Thank you to sfy leaders Zainab Hamayun and Ayesha Nasir for their phenomenal grassroots leadership in leading these critical and sensitive conversations.
