At “#SocietyForYouth held its 22nd session of the #40in4campaign to raise awareness of #YouthMenstrualHealth. 300 students of grades 6 to 9 were served by this MHM programme. For the first time, students received instruction on menstrual health management. The majority of the students in this school were from remote areas and varied in terms of race and region, with little to no knowledge of MHM. They all encountered the same difficulties. They were affected by deeply ingrained cultural beliefs and taboos. Due to the stigmatisation of periods, these taboos affect all girls in our society, regardless of ethnicity or religion. The session addressed awareness on how to handle their periods with dignity, confidence, and safety. Students were made aware of the dangers of unsanitary behaviours, as well as the illnesses and disorders that could result from using inadequate menstrual hygiene products and behaviours. This session aimed to persuade students to give up deeply ingrained superstitious ideas and habits. Aside from being determined to adopt healthy and hygienic practises after receiving accurate and scientific information, young girls also made a commitment to share this knowledge with others in order to contribute to the positive change that #SocietyForYouth is attempting through the #40in4 campaign. SFY is grateful to Madam Sameena Khan, the principal of Fazle Haq College in Mardan, for her steadfast assistance in organising an MHM session at their institution. The SFY is particularly appreciative of our leader, Mahnoor Shahid, for her outstanding leadership in guiding these delicate and important dialogues, as well as our young volunteers Hira Shahid, Mahnoor Siraj, and Sara Bibi, without whose strong support it would not have been possible.
