In August 2025, relentless monsoon rains triggered flash floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with Buner and Swat suffering the heaviest devastation. Within hours, villages were submerged, homes destroyed, and thousands left without shelter, food, or clean water. The damage extended beyond immediate survival needs, roads, schools, and healthcare centers collapsed, and families lost their livelihoods. Women and children remain among the most vulnerable, facing challenges such as lack of proper clothing, safe spaces, and menstrual health management (MHM) resources.
The crisis demands more than short-term aid; it requires coordinated, grassroots-led responses that combine immediate relief with long-term recovery. Schools, as trusted community anchors, play a vital role in ensuring help reaches people with dignity and effectiveness.
The scale of this disaster demands a unified front, and SFY’s broad-based model provides a natural advantage in building strong coalitions to address such emerging, multifaceted crises. Today, we are absolutely thrilled to announce a significant new partnership with Beaconhouse School System (BSS), Mardan campus– not just a changemaker, but a true leader in the education industry. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in our flood relief operations, significantly bolstering our FRI25. SFY has always prioritized ‘collective action,’ and securing such partnerships empowers us to better serve the public interest, ensuring an effective, coordinated, and impactful response to the floods.
This partnership not only enhances our ability to provide immediate relief but also powerfully underscores one of SFY’s core values: the strength derived from a coalition of diverse stakeholders and local actors. It’s precisely due to our approach of grassroots organizing that esteemed local institutions like BSS and others can join hands with us to create sustainable change, reaching deeper into affected communities.
Schools as Anchors: Redefining Community Engagement
As SFY has long contended, schools are incredibly important centers of community life. Through our groundbreaking #LIMEPakistan project, we have meticulously sought to redefine schools as vital community anchors, capable of catalyzing profound social change. This partnership with BSS breathes new life into this philosophy. BSS teachers will be at the forefront of this joint effort, not only supporting our Clothes Drive but also providing integral support to Menstrual Health Management (MHM) activities.
Through this collaborative effort, dedicated BSS female teachers will accompany SFY leaders to support grassroots intervention, ensuring the dignified and respectful delivery of clothes and MHM kits in a safe and secure environment. Critically, they will also provide essential MHM education, breaking down taboos and empowering women and girls with vital knowledge. This specific aspect of the partnership is transformative. It not only empowers women’s public leadership infrastructures across various communities but also fundamentally produces a culturally relevant and resilient approach to engaging with local women.
In a context where menstrual healthcare is often a taboo-sensitive subject, this collaboration allows us to approach these conversations with dignity, respect, and warmth, fostering trust and genuine impact. Notably, BSS is a long-standing partner, having previously hosted #LIMEPakistan training, making this a deepening of an already impactful relationship.
This partnership is more than just an alignment of strategic goals; it breathes life into new ways of thinking about community engagement and leadership. It’s precisely through such a broad-based coalition of institutional actors, like schools, that we can implement large-scale interventions, providing much-needed, urgent, and immediate relief to crisis-hit communities. Beyond increased manpower and logistical support, this collaboration essentially bolsters sustainable community development, powered by robust local grassroots networks of responsible citizens.
Beyond Relief: Investing in a Resilient Future
This is more than just a partnership; it’s a shared commitment to restoring hope and health in communities devastated by the floods. It’s about providing immediate relief and laying the groundwork for long-term recovery and resilience. By working together, we are not only addressing the current humanitarian crisis but also investing in the future capacity of these communities to withstand and overcome challenges.
The road to recovery is long, but with dedicated partners like Beaconhouse School System by our side, we are immeasurably stronger. We invite you to join this growing movement of compassion and support. Learn more about our Flood Relief Initiative and how you can contribute to rebuilding lives and restoring hope.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Beaconhouse School System, Mardan, and Principal Ma’am Samia for their invaluable support. Together, we can bring hope and tangible relief to the flood-affected communities of Buner and Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
