#40In4Campaign – Al-Muarif School in Nankana Sahib
SFY is excited to share the completion of the 10th session of our #40In4Campaign at Al-Muarif School in Nankana Sahib. This #YouthMenstrualHealth session served 47 students of grade 9 and 10.
A major proportion of our audience was from rural areas, were unaware of menstrual hygiene and followed unsafe practices. Students were reluctant to speak about their problems and to our surprise, hesitant even to engage openly since the topic is stigmatized in this cultural-educational environment. The fact that they never had a chance to attend any such session before was a major milestone this session achieved.
The session provided important information (about menstruation, menstrual cycle, taboos and myths, unhygienic practices, risks and hygienic practices) to its fullest and facilitated a space where students felt comfortable to speak about their issues. It is satisfying to witness how young girls feel encouraged and motivated to not only share about their experiences but collectively create spaces of belonging and sharing, through these menstrual health sessions.
We are grateful to Madam Nighat Shahid Principal (Al-Muarif School) for allowing us to accomplish our task. SFY is also thankful to leader Nida Nasreen and Samra Arshad not only for their ground-leadership but for also completing the 10th session in our #40In4Campaign #society4youth.
