#40In4Campaign – Sarhad Public School, Abbottabad

#SocietyForYouth organized it’s 15th session of the #40In4Campaign about #YouthMesntrualHealth in Sarhad Public School. Young girls of grade 7th and 8th attended the session to get education on Menstrual Hygiene.
Menstruation, despite being a natural and healthy process that every women undergoes, is associated with taboo and stigma. Taboos around discussing menstruation mean that countless girls start their periods scared, uninformed and without support. Many think they are sick, or even dying when they menstruate for the first time. This adversely effect their physical and mental health.
These taboos not only give rise to myths and false information but also prevent girls from managing their periods with dignity. For example, some girls believe that talking about periods can make periods more painful and is sinful to talk about them. Facilitating dialogue and educating girls about periods is only way to debunk these myths and break menstruation related taboos.
#40in4Campaign, aims to highlight proper Menstrual hygiene practices that are good for one’s health and environment. We envision a community where no girl has to suffer in silence because of periods, and they are empowered enough to seek medical help related to menstrual irregularities and problems.
Thank you to Principal Ma’am Aliya Idrees for allowing us to arrange session in her school. It’s really essential for principals and teachers to understand the need of Menstrual Health awareness. Thank you to SFY leader Zainab for leading the session.
