#LIMEPAKISTAN – 3 One-day training sessions
Society For Youth is pleased to announce the completion of our 3 One-day training sessions as part of our Pilot Study in Mardan. The Pilot Study was organized to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and prepare for upcoming training sessions of #LIMEPakistan.
The first training was conducted on the 18th at Mardan Institute of Allied and Health Sciences in which teachers from Oriental Nursing College, Al Fajar College, SAS Montessori School SMT, and Iqra School participated. The second was at Beacon House School on 19th and the third at PIPS International School on 30th of the December 2023. The pilot study served a total of 51 teachers who participated in the 3 one-day trainings.
SFY’s #LIMEPakistan guide incorporates not only knowledge on menstrual health but also engaging activities and case studies to generate meaningful conversations and ideas about MHM. The LIME Guide encapsulates SFY’s holistic approach to addressing menstrual health. Teachers not only received educational resources but also Safepad products. Safepad is an award-winning sanitary pad that can be reused up to one year and is more affordable.
The Pilot Study focused closely on addressing issues, challenges, and opportunities for bettering menstrual health and hygiene management. Teachers discussed bodily and hormonal changes during puberty in both males and females. They also identified several challenges during this natural cycle, including the lack of awareness about menstruation. Importantly, teachers discussed infrastructural problems, access to menstrual products, and the role of schools in addressing period poverty and providing reliable scientific knowledge to young girls. The training conducted several activities including preparing DIY period kits, effectively managing period pain and taking initiatives to make their school toilets MHM-friendly for young women and the importance of nutrition with participants.
Society For Youth congratulates all our local partners for making this pilot study a huge success. SFY will now embark on the next phase in several cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Our goal is to train 1,000 teachers from Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and then move to Swabi & Abbottabad. Our mission is to build capacity among teachers so they can openly discuss menstrual issues and health-related problems, provide information, and spread awareness among girls to make their journey easy.
We extend special thanks to the LIMEPAK Pilot Study facilitator Ma’am Shazia for her dedication. We also thank SFY leaders Nimra, Nida, Fareeha, and Zainab for their assistance with the training.
We are also grateful to the honorable Principals of the following institutions: Ms. Saima of Beacon House, Ms. Huma of PIPS International, and Mr. Saddar Bacha of Mardan Institute of Allied and Health Science for their tremendous support in this pilot study.
